Where to go and what to do.

To take a website live to the web, you’ll need an address or domain name. There are many places to register a domain name such as Network Solutions, Register.com, and GoDaddy.

Our domain registrar of choice is GoDaddy. They offer domain names at the best price point, and they have what we think is the best control panel amongst it’s competitors. If at any point you decide you don’t like them as a registrar, it’s very easy to transfer your name to another registrar.

Godaddy also provides other services such as web hosting and email hosting, although we DO NOT suggest you purchase any of these services. Domain Registry is what they do and what they do well. Hosting is a separate service handled better by those who specialize in hosting. With hosting you’ll want complete control over your servers configurations and you don’t want to have to pay for the “little features” such as email forwarding and URL forwarding.

So when your ready to buy a domain name, head over to www.godaddy.com homepage where you’ll be able to plug in a few ideas and see what’s available.

Of course we’re here to help if you’d like our participation.

In a perfect world, every project starts with a brief

Every good project execution starts off with extensive planning. We find it useful to initiate this process before we’ve even bid or win a project. We ask our clients to do a minimal amount of legwork and preparation to help this process get a kick-start by writing a quick project brief which would identify the following:

Your projects goals

Initial ideas on site concept

Competitor references

Supplement information on your goods or services

Existing assets to be delivered

Contact info of key players

The above will serve as a guideline for an effective project brief and the more time and effort that can be put into such a document can only be useful for wherever you take your project. It’s a great exercise in understanding what you’re looking for from your service provider and it really helps your creative team execute your concepts.

The following tutorial on setting up email in Microsoft Outook serves as a good starting point. We do however have different rules for creating the incoming and outgoing server specified in step4 of this tutorial. They should be used as follows:

Incoming mail server (POP3 & IMAP)
mail.yourdomain.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
mail.yourdomain.com

This example is not to be taken literally. If your website is bobswidgets.com, then both your incoming and outgoing servers should be set to mail.bobswidgets.com

An overview of how we bill and what you can expect from our billing process.

We bill all projects with one of two methods.

Per Project
We provide you with a fixed bid price based on the time we anticipate to execute your project(s) from start to finish. We scope the project and capture the fine details on paper. If changes are made to the scope of the project, then the changes get amended the work order. We require a 50% deposit for these projects with the remaining 50% due before launch or production of the project.

Retainers
Purchase a block of time at a reduced rate. We deduct time remaining as we work on your project. Time remaining can be used on any of your projects, and your unused time is never lost. We provide you with a detailed log of where our time is spent. We also provide estimates on your project(s) so you have an idea of just how much time will be absorbed against your retainer credit.

How much will it cost and how long will it take?

How much will it cost and how long will it take? These are commonly asked questions that we don’t always have an answer to without looking further into your specific needs. We provide a service as opposed to a product that can be picked out of a catalog. With that said, every project is very different and must be scoped to identify it’s requirements and what will make it successful.

We’ve launched websites in under a week and we’ve worked on other more complex projects that have spanned a few months… and of course these come at different price points.

The good news is… we’re willing to look at your project and scope it so that both parties have a good understanding of what’s involved in making it come to life. The question may not be answered on the spot, but it will be answered before any commitments are made.

Our Bread and Butter.

Web development is our bread and butter. It’s what we do best and love most. We pride ourselves in being a “all under one roof” shop. We build database driven websites that look great and work flawlessly. Sometimes we build from scratch, and other times we recycle existing open-source software to achieve your websites goals. It always depends on the circumstance and goals of the project(s) as well as budget and timing constraints.

Web Design Services

Wireframing
Plan the site in the black & white before sinking time into development

Photoshop Comps
Illustrates how your website will look graphically before moving into development

Rapid prototyping
Build a mock version as part of a longer planning process for presentation purposes.

Photography
It’s a value added service, we’re not exactly a boutique portrait shop, but we know what we’re doing with studio lighting, green-screen, and chroma-key backdrops. If your eCommerce site will need 200 products shots, we’d love to take it on and incorporate the style of shot into the site design.

Web Development Services

Database Design & Implementation
Build a product catalog, an article based blog site, or track an events registrations. A database would be key in any of these scenarios.

Custom Programming
Our PHP coders can build anything that can do whatever. That’s vague, but it’s the truth. If we can dream it, we can build it.

Adobe Flash Development
Want moving parts, fading images, scaling effects…? We’ve built some pretty slick flash sites and we’d like to do yours next. Of course these can also hook into databases and do some pretty advanced things on a larger scale.

Adobe Flex Development
We’re just scratching the surface.

iPhone Applications
Also just scratching the surface.

Cut costs and turnaround time! Here we list some of the technologies we use.

Leveraging existing software can often lead to lower pricing and faster turnaround. We implement the most solid software and systems available to build your sites:

WordPress (Blogging)
Used for Simple Blogs and Content Management Projects

ExpressionEngine (CMS)
Used for more advanced Blogs and Content Management Projects

Shopify (Shopping Cart)
We use shopify for smaller eCommerce Projects where all the bells and whistles (such as gift cards, recommended items, etc) are not necessary. Setup is a breeze, and turnaround and costs can be reduced drastically.

ZenCart (Shopping Cart)
For more advanced eCommerce, we build on the zencart framework which allows for all the bells and whistles. If features don’t already exist with this package, we’re able to develop custom modules to interact with the system.
